XML data can be found in various sources such as an XML column from a table, an XML file, a RSS feed, a web service, a PMML data mining model or an XBRL document.  The attached paper describes different examples of WebI documents, DeskI reports and a Dashboard analytic running against XML data through the semantic layer. It presents two methods: Shredding with XQuery and XSLT  transformation. It shows also a heterogeneous query combining relational data with XML data.
