A growing number of public sector organizations are upgrading to the latest release of Oracle E-Business Suite to take advantage of new analytics and other features that can take the sting out of the extreme budget and staffing constraints.

The Chicago Public Schools system, for example, decided an upgrade to Release 12.1 offered new capabilities that would help the third-largest school district in the country prepare for future growth.

“The new features in the latest version will enable us to operate more efficiently and effectively, such as managing our $6 billion capital and grant monies,” says Prasad Nettem, director for enterprise financial systems for the district, which is the second-largest employer in Chicago.

“We went live with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 on time and on budget,” Nettem adds.

Among the new features in Release 12.1 are tools for better financial management and decision-making, such as various types of analytics programs that now come integrated within transaction systems. This includes federal financial, procurement and spend, HR and talent management, and project analytics.

New help for workforce management consists of an integrated talent management solution that creates direct connections among strategic and transactional HR data and processes.

A Webcast offers details about the latest capabilities, along with advice on analyzing the business case for upgrading to Release 12.1. “Make Your Move: Evaluating and Executing Your Upgrade to Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1” is hosted by Cliff Godwin, senior vice president, applications development, and includes two Oracle customers who discuss the lessons they learned for smoothing the upgrade process.
